Free .ME goodies for JDAB.co.uk readers

The possibilties with the internet today are endless, and many use it to show off their talents, tell the world their thoughts or even search for employment.

That’s why it’s so important to choose a domain name that really sells you. You are your own brand, and there’s no better way of showcasing yourself than by using a .ME domain name.

The history of .ME

The .ME domain name extension was introduced and publically available seven years ago in 2008 – the top level domain replaced .cg.yu, previously used as Montenegro declared its independence from Serbia and Montenegro on 3rd June 2006.

Although .ME is actually a ccTLD, it has gained a large amount of popularity due to it spelling the word “me”, making it a personable and friendly domain which can be used for a host of different niches. It’s this reason that makes .ME perfect for any blogger, job-seeker, student, anyone with a portfolio – anyone at all!

Some cool potential uses would be for a personal blog, a family e-mail network (forename@surname.me), URL shortener, corporate website or even a domain hack.

Fun fact

.ME has over 800,000 registered domains, but the country of Montenegro only has around 625,000 people! That means that if only people from Montenegro bought .ME domains, every person in the country would own an average of 1.3 domains each!

Who uses .me?

There are plenty of big companies and websites using the .ME extension, for example:

  • Facebook (fb.me)
  • WordPress (wp.me, jetpack.me)
  • Line (line.me)
  • About.me (about.me)
  • Tango (tango.me)
  • Indiegogo (igg.me)
  • Time Magazine (ti.me)
  • Rooms (rooms.me)
  • Al Jazeera (aje.me)
  • Charlie Webster, Broadcaster (charliewebster.me)
  • LogMeIn (join.me)
  • Visa (v.me)
  • And me! (jdab.me)

These are some of the biggest organisations in the world, and with the likes of Facebook and WordPress behind the .ME brand, you’re in good company.
