How to show WordPress featured images in the ACP

The WordPress backend is packed full of great features, but there are often plugins that can add to these even further to improve the user experience. In this guide I’m going to show you how to show WordPress featured images in the ACP.

The Posts and Pages areas are great and have some excellent columns which make sorting your posts and pages easy, but one thing that is missing is the ability to show the post/page featured image. However, this feature can be achieved simply by installing a great plugin developed by Austin Passy.

The plugin is called ‘Featured Image Column’, and simply enables the user to show WordPress featured images in the ACP in both Posts and Pages sections. The column is added just before the title, like so:

As you can see from above, a new column has been added over on the left which shows a thumbnail of the featured image, which is a really nice addition. This also shows on the Pages section should you happen to use featured images on pages, though this is rarely used in WordPress.

Download the plugin and be sure to tweet @TheFrosty and let him know that you like the plugin!

  • I think this is an excellent plug-in. I think it’s very important to ALWAYS include a picture in each blog post as it really compliments the text and helps break it up a bit ultimately making the entry even more attractive to visitors. This plug-in helps ensures that one does not neglect to add an image in their posts. Thank you for posting this as this is something I will definitely utilize. 😉

  • That’s a great plug-in you found there! Great find. I agree with Sharon, it’s a very good idea to have images with all of your blog entries. No image, no blog post!
