By default, WordPress will generate /category after your domain name when you are viewing the archive for a post category.
An example mentioned on sirlinksalot goes like this: yourdomainname.com/category/sports. It can look a little ugly, and would look much cleaner if it were just yourdomainname.com/sports. Without knowledge of coding, it can seem difficult to implement this feature. However, there is an easy way to remove the text, and can be done simply by installing a plugin.
The plugin you’ll want to install is WordPress SEO by Yoast. Yoast are an excellent WordPress development company, and this plugin has been downloaded and is actively used by well over a million different websites. It’s packed full of handy SEO features, but hidden away in the Advanced Settings is the ability to trim /caetgory from your WordPress URLs!
To do so, install and activate the plugin, choose the Advanced tab, head to the Permalinks tab and check the box that says “Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL”. This should then remove the /category part from your website’s URLs and you will have a much cleaner looking link!

‘WordPress SEO by Yoast’ offers a plethora of features
